Bishan city is a developed residential and planning area situated at the northernmost part of the Central Province of Singapore. Bishan also referred to as Bishan New Town is ranked as the fortieth largest city in Central Singapore when it comes to geographical size. The other small town that makes up the larger Bishan city is Upper Thomson town. Upper Thomson region, just like Marymount, was also classified as a subzone within the planning area of Bishan, Singapore, by the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore. The large Upper Thomson residential area is made up of Ang Mo Kio Avenue one occupying the northern side, the Marymount avenue towards the eastern side, the Lornie and the Braddell Road towards the southern region, and the planning area of Central Water Catchment in the west.
The other small town that makes up Bishan city is the Bishan East town. Just like the other two small towns in Bishan, the eastern part of Bishan is a subzone within the planning and residential regions in the city of Bishan. Bishan East town is surrounded Bishan road in the western side, Ang Mo Kio Avenue one towards the northern side, Braddell Road in the south, and the Central Expressway towards the eastern side. Bishan East town is where the central business district of the larger Bishan city is located. Some of the important landmarks that define the Bishan East town include Bishan Stadium, Bishan MRT station, Bishan Public library, Bishan Bus Interchange, The Junction 8, and the Bishan Community Club.
Bishan city is mainly linked up to the rest of Singapore by road. One of the most notable road links that connect Bishan city to the Northern parts of Singapore is the Central Expressway. Bishan city is also connected through the Bishan Mass Rapid Transit station, feeder buses, and numerous bus interchange that offers road transport to other regions in Singapore and local neighborhoods in the city.
